The coolest food packaging of tomorrow is waste free!

A package that opens itself in the oven when the food is ready to be served is impossible? Peeling a rice package like an apple is ridiculous? No it isn’t! In this world where everything is changing and new designs are developed on a daily base, food packaging has remained more ore less the same. Swedish designers Hannah Billqvist and Anna Glansén of studio Tomorrow Machine decided to come up with innovating and encouraging ideas to reverse that.
Tomorrow Machine’s vision is to build a better world through research, new technologies & intelligent material and they believe in looking at science from a creative point of view to shape tomorrows innovations. If you translate that into food packaging, you get packaging that perishes as the food it contains does, plant pots that eliminate the need for watering, self-cleaning plates that actually work, food packaging that opens in the oven when the food inside it is ready to eat, compressed packages that expand to serving bowls when hot water that at the same time cooks the food is poured over the mand many more.  Their products save space in transportation by being compressed and are made out of a 100% bio based, biodegradable, compostable and smart material.
For this project, Tommorrow Machine collaborated with Innventia to combine the knowledge of scientists and the creativity of designers. This way they manage to use new materials to their fullest potential, create the packaging of tommorrow today and also contribute to our fight against the use of plastic
