Today, our oceans contain six times more plastic than sea life and G-Star RAW came up with a new project to turn ocean plastic into something fantastic!
The brand teamed up with Pharrell Williams and Parley for the Oceans and started a wave in motion towards a new and innovative generation of denim and apparel: Bionic. In just a few steps, the oceans plastic is turned into the world’s first recycled plastic denim. It all starts with getting the plastic pollution from the oceans, that offer a great supply with over 700 million tonnes of plastic. Then the retrieved plastic is broken into chips and shredded in fibres. These fibres are then spun into the very first eco-yarn. The last step is the weaving and knitting the eco-yarn into the unique designs with influences of Pharrell Williams. This way we can wear the responsibility for the oceans!
The team of SD Trading thinks that this is a wonderful initiative in the fight against plastic. However, we also think that we all should try to use less plastic as we can always better be safe than sorry!
